Taskbar Shuffle doesn't work with Windows 7 as I'm sure you know. Is there plans to release a version compatible with Windows 7? 7's current Middle Click to open a copy of the same program just doesn't make sence to me.

I played with Windows 7 briefly the other day, and I believe it does allow you to move around your taskbar buttons and tray icons, no?
What would you like to see Taskbar Shuffle do on Windows 7?

Middle Click to close a program. Like I said in my original post, Windows 7 opens a copy of the program you are Middle Clicking instead of closing it. I don't even use the "Moving" function at all. I am, however, completely addicted to the Middle Click Close.

When I tried one of the betas you could move around icons, but only within groups. Even if you turn all grouping off all windows belonging to the same process stick together. You can change how, for example three folders are sorted amongst themselves in the taskbar. But you can't do a simple thing like putting a Notepad window in between two folders, due to the underlying grouping. Possible: D:\ D:\temp C:\Program Files\ Notepad - Untitled
Not possible: D:\ D:\temp Notepad - Untitled C:\Program Files\ In other words it's totally useless if you don't want to use grouping. That's why I personally hope TaskbarShuffle will be functional with Windows7. But since it probably would need 10 or more applications — to fix all the things they have done wrong when it comes to the explorer interface with Vista/Win7 (and to bring back all the stuff that I currently use to make XP's manageable) — before I could bring myself to using Win7, my wish for an upgrade of TaskbarShuffle isn't really worth mentioning.

Interesting.. didn't know any of this in regards to Windows 7. Thanks for all the info, I'll now know what people are talking about when they ask me to support Windows 7.
I'll look into this at some point for sure.

Programs within the same group are not arrangeable in Win 7, as they are in Taskbar Shuffle. The other really ugly Windows 7 thing is that there is no regular way to disable Taskbar Thumbnail previews. That feature alone would be worth separate program, if possible please consider it as an option...... :-)

No way to disable previews? That sounds annoying, I'll have to look into it.

Jay, As a former user of Taskbar Shuffle, I wanted to say thank you. It was (or is, I guess it hasn't died yet :)) a great program. I think there is still a strong need for a program like Taskbar Shuffle in Windows 7. It needs a somewhat different set of functionality of course, but the need is there. I have two issues that drove me nuts when it came to the new superbar, as it's configured by default. First, when an icon has more than one window, I wanted left clicking to switch back to the last active window. Left clicking again should just cycle through the windows. What Win7 does by default is display the thumbnail previews... This is redundant because hovering over an icon displays the previews. (I strongly suspect they made clicking do the same so that mouse and touch interfaces would be consistent. Still, they made the wrong choice.) Second, I wanted middle clicking a taskbar icon to close all the windows. Instead it launches a new instance, which shift + left clicking also does. I have described this in greater detail, and provided a workable solution in AutoHotkey on my website. I called this program Taskbar Overlord. It's nothing terribly special, and it does have its flaws, but I think you might be interested in having a look at it when considering whether to update Taskbar Shuffle for Windows 7. Some of the additional improvements that a real program might have over mine are:
Thanks again for Taskbar Shuffle. I hope that this information is helpful (and that in the meantime, perhaps others will get some enjoyment out of my solution.)

+1 to fixing the same application grouping in Windows 7, it's driving me crazy not having the ability to reorder whatever I want.

+1 for Taskbar Shuffle for Win7 Grouping the windows of same type and not being able to move them seperatly is really annoying me, not to mention lost of middle click to close the window. If I knew that before I would definitely stay on XP.

+1
I've installed windows 7 as a virtual machine, before change the system from xp to 7. It's really good but the thing that i can't move the windows seperatly or ungroup them to move them is driving me crazy. I'm staying on XP as long as there is no solution for this problem.

Hello I've been following this topic since it was posted, waiting for a tool to do some of the stuff mentioned here, like disabling grouping, or closing a window on middle click, but half year passed and there's nothing here. So I've decided to write such a tool myself, here it is: 7 Taskbar Tweaker
Features: - Show standard window menu on right click instead of jump list. - Close or focus a window on middle click instead of running a new instance. - Disable grouping of windows by file path or application id. - Open with while dropping a file on a taskbar button instead of pinning. - Disable thumbnail previews. I've tested it only on Windows 7 RTM 7600 Ultimate, but hopefully it works on other versions too. Tell me if it doesn't. Enjoy

Hello RaMMicHaeL, great work, it works fine on 32-bit Windows but unfortunatly not on 64-bit edition. The Message i get when i click the apply-button is: "7 Taskbar Tweaker: Not attached to explorer". Will there be a win64 version?

Hi rael. I'm not really experienced with x64 programming, but I might try it one day. I have a processor with 64-bit processor, so I can actually install Windows 7 x64 and play with it. Also, doesn't it show an error when running the tweaker?

Hi RaMMicHaeL Yes, at startup it dispkays: "7 Taskbar Tweaker: Could not load library". Then the options Dialog appears. I guess it tries to inject a dll into windows explorer, which must fail, as 64-bit Programs can't load 32-bit dlls.
I myself started my first 64-bit programming recently, only a few weeks ago with C++ and Visual Studio. I found it much easyier than i expected.
7 Taskbar Tweaker is a great tool, because it solves one of the most annoying problems introduced with windows 7. Have you ever thought of sharing your code on a site like www.codeproject.com?

"I found it much easyier than i expected." Yeah, but without a 64-bit system I can't really make sure the code is working. I've tried to install a 64-bit Windows 7 as a guest OS using VMWare, but it says my processor doesn't support this stuff and I have to install the OS for real, which I don't really want to. "Have you ever thought of sharing your code on a site like www.codeproject.com?" No

Hi, i only have 64 bit windows 7. It doesn't work Btw.: @rael: there is a new version of virtualbox, which will allow you to install 64 bit versions on a 32 bit system.
Maybe you can share the code, if you don't compile it to 64 bit, so other people can try to do it?!

Hi
"Maybe you can share the code, if you don't compile it to 64 bit, so other people can try to do it?! " Yeah, i would definetly try that. That's exactly what I had in mind, when I asked about codeproject.com.
